Rama’s Defense of Truth and Dharma in Reply to Jabali
नैव लोभान्न मोहाद्वा न ह्यज्ञानात्तमोऽन्वितः।सेतुं सत्यस्य भेत्स्यामि गुरो स्सत्यप्रतिश्रवः।।2.109.17।।
naiva lobhān na mohād vā na hy ajñānāt tamo'nvitaḥ |
setuṁ satyasya bhetsyāmi guroḥ satya-pratiśravaḥ ||2.109.17||
Hindi dahil sa kasakiman, ni sa pagkalito, ni sa kamangmangan at dilim ng isip ko sisirain ang tulay ng katotohanan; tapat ako sa panata ng aking ama.
We have heard that the offerings of a man inclined to untruth, of an unstable and unsteady mind are accepted neither by the gods nor by the ancestors.
Satya-dharma: one must not violate truth and a solemn vow, regardless of tempting motives like gain or confusion.
Rāma responds to Bharata’s appeal by reaffirming he will uphold Daśaratha’s promise and his own commitment to exile.
Satya-niṣṭhā (steadfast truthfulness) and vow-keeping, even under emotional and political pressure.
