FAQs

This verse functions as a tīrtha-identification marker: it locates and authorizes Haṃsapratapana as a world-renowned pilgrimage ford, reinforcing the Purāṇic idea that sacred geography supports dharma through tīrtha-yātrā.

Indirectly, it supports bhakti by pointing devotees toward sanctified spaces associated with purification and remembrance of the divine—tīrtha-yātrā is presented in the Purāṇas as a practical aid to devotion and inner cleansing.

The verse reflects applied sacred geography and directionality (dig-nirdeśa)—a practical component of ritual culture used when planning tīrtha-yātrā and locating holy sites relative to rivers and renowned settlements.
