The Greatness of Gayā
Gayā-Māhātmya
Suta (narrating Narada Purana discourse; teaching context attributed to Narada’s tradition)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It states the salvific efficacy of piṇḍa-dāna: a proper offering can release departed beings from the preta-condition and elevate them to higher realms, culminating here in Brahmaloka.
While the verse is primarily about śrāddha/piṇḍa rites, in the Purāṇic framework such acts are performed with śraddhā (faith) and dharmic intention; this devotional disposition supports upliftment of both the doer and the departed.
Ritual procedure and timing are implied—kalpa-oriented pitṛ-kārya such as piṇḍa-dāna/śrāddha—showing the applied side of Vedic ritual science rather than grammar or astronomy explicitly.
