Narada Purana — Purva Bhaga, Shloka 89

Prāyaścitta for Mahāpātakas and the Sin-destroying Power of Viṣṇu-smaraṇa

अष्टोत्तरसहस्रं तु जपेद्वै वेदमातरम् । पापानामधिकं पापं द्विजदैवतनिंदनम् ॥ ८९ ॥

aṣṭottarasahasraṃ tu japedvai vedamātaram | pāpānāmadhikaṃ pāpaṃ dvijadaivataniṃdanam || 89 ||

Tunay na dapat bigkasin sa japa ang “Ina ng mga Veda” nang isang libo at walo. Ngunit higit na mabigat kaysa ibang kasalanan ang paglapastangan sa mga Brāhmaṇa, na dapat ituring na banal na tulad ng mga diyos.
