Dhvajāropaṇa and Dhvajāgopaṇa: Procedure, Stotra, and Phala (Merit) of Raising Viṣṇu’s Flag
यमामनन्ति वै सन्तः सच्चिदानन्दविग्रहम् । निर्गुणं च गुणाधारं स मे विष्णुः प्रसीदतु ॥ ३८ ॥
yamāmananti vai santaḥ saccidānandavigraham | nirguṇaṃ ca guṇādhāraṃ sa me viṣṇuḥ prasīdatu || 38 ||
Narada (in the course of devotional praise, within the Narada–Sanatkumara dialogue frame)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It identifies Viṣṇu as the supreme reality—saccidānanda—transcending material qualities (guṇas) while also being the substratum that upholds them, pointing to liberation through recognizing His supreme nature and seeking His grace.
Bhakti is expressed as śaraṇāgati (seeking refuge): the devotee praises Viṣṇu’s highest nature and directly prays, “prasīdatu—may He be pleased,” emphasizing grace (anugraha) as central to spiritual progress.
No specific Vedāṅga practice is taught in this verse; however, the term “āmananti” reflects reliance on śruti-smṛti tradition and correct transmission/recitation (a concern of Śikṣā), grounding devotion in authoritative Vedic testimony.
