It treats Jyotiṣa as a Vedāṅga that reads karmic indications at birth; the verse underscores how severe lunar affliction is considered an ominous sign, reminding one of life’s fragility and the need for dharma and spiritual preparedness.
While the verse is technical (Jyotiṣa), its implication supports Bhakti-oriented living: recognizing uncertainty of lifespan encourages taking refuge in Bhagavān through remembrance, prayer, and righteous conduct without delay.
Jyotiṣa Vedāṅga: assessing a birth condition via the Moon’s affliction (pāpatva), association with malefics (krūra-yuti), and absence of benefic aspects (śubha-dṛṣṭi) to judge critical outcomes.
