Adhyaya 84 — The Gods’ Hymn after the Slaying of Mahishasura and the Goddess’ Boon

The verse sacralizes power: the same hands that are ‘tender’ also wield weapons—suggesting that true compassion may require the strength to prevent harm.
Devotional hymnody within carita; it supports the Purāṇic pedagogical goal of cultivating śaraṇāgati (taking refuge).
Weapons correspond to capacities of consciousness (cutting, piercing, crushing obstacles). The ‘tender hand’ metaphor indicates these powers are guided by maternal care, not cruelty.
