Adhyaya 22 — Kuvalayashva’s Death through Daitya-Deceit and Madalasa’s Self-Immolation
मातुः सतीत्वं मद्वंशवैमल्यं शौर्यमात्मनः ।
संग्रामे संत्यजन् प्राणान् नात्यजद् द्विजरक्षणम् ॥
mātuḥ satītvaṃ mad-vaṃśa-vaimalyaṃ śauryam ātmanaḥ |
saṃgrāme saṃtyajan prāṇān nātyajad dvija-rakṣaṇam ||
“(Itinindig niya) ang kalinisan ng dangal ng kanyang ina, ang kadalisayan ng aking angkan, at ang sariling kagitingan. Bagama’t iniwan niya ang buhay sa labanan, hindi niya iniwan ang pag-iingat sa dalawang-ulit-na-isinilang (brāhmaṇa).”

Heroism is validated not merely as martial success but as steadfast service to dharma—here, safeguarding the brāhmaṇa order and the moral capital of family virtue.
