Adhyaya 22 — Kuvalayashva’s Death through Daitya-Deceit and Madalasa’s Self-Immolation
कृतार्तहरेषाशब्दो वै त्रस्तः साश्रुविलोचनः ।
नीतः सो 'श्वश्च तेनैव दानवेन दुरात्मना ॥
kṛtārtahreṣāśabdo vai trastaḥ sāśruvilocanaḥ | nītaḥ so 'śvaśca tenaiva dānavena durātmanā ||
Habang sumisigaw at naglalabas ng hingal na huni ng kabayong nagdurusa, takót at luhaan—siya at ang kabayo ay tinangay ng yaong dānava na may masamang loob.

Adharma is marked by needless terrorizing and seizure. The vivid distress imagery is meant to awaken urgency in the listener: compassion must translate into prompt corrective action.
Ākhyāna. Emotional detail serves the narrative’s dharma-impulse rather than encyclopedic Purāṇic categories.
The ‘horse’ can stand for prāṇa or momentum; when seized by a dānava (lower impulse), one’s forward movement becomes fear-driven until reclaimed by dharmic force.
