Yudhiṣṭhira’s Rationale for Sending Arjuna and Request to Dhaumya
A disciplined religious act—especially in a sacred place—can yield great merit, comparable to major sacrifices and large-scale charity, and its ethical-spiritual benefit is portrayed as extending to one’s lineage (kula), not merely the individual.
A speaker (here attributed as “Ghulasṭya”) is describing the greatness (māhātmya) of a sacred observance or location: performing the prescribed act grants the fruit of the Puṇḍarīka sacrifice, uplifts one’s family line, and even a single night’s stay there equals the merit of donating a thousand cows.
