इन्द्रस्य पाण्डवैः समागमः

Indra’s Meeting with the Pāṇḍavas

'धनेश्वर! तुम्हारे इस दुष्टात्मा सखाने मेरी अवहेलना करके तुम्हारे देखते-देखते जो मेरा इस प्रकार तिरस्कार किया है, उसके फलस्वरूप इन समस्त सैनिकोंके साथ यह एक मनुष्यके हाथसे मारा जायगा। तुम्हारी बुद्धि खोटी हो गयी है, अतः इन सब सैनिकोंके मारे जानेपर उनके लिये दुःख उठानेके पश्चात्‌ तुम फिर उसी मनुष्यका दर्शन करके मेरे शाप एवं पापसे छुटकारा पा सकोगे ।। सैन्यानां तु तवैतेषां पुत्रपौत्रबलान्वितम्‌ । न शापं प्राप्यते घोरं तत्‌ तवाज्ञां करिष्यति,“इन सैनिकोंमेंसे जो तुम्हारी आज्ञाका पालन करेगा, वह पुत्र, पौत्र तथा सेनापर लागू होनेवाले इस भयंकर शापके प्रभावसे अलग रहेगा”

dhaneśvara! tvayā dṛṣṭvā dṛṣṭvā mamaivaṃ tiraskṛtaṃ duṣṭātmanā sakhyā avajñāya; tasya phalena eṣa ekaḥ puruṣaḥ sarvaiḥ sainyaiḥ saha ekasya puruṣasya hastena hataḥ bhaviṣyati. tava buddhiḥ khoṭī jātā; ataḥ sarveṣāṃ sainyānāṃ nihateṣu teṣāṃ kṛte duḥkham anubhūya punar eva taṃ puruṣaṃ darśayitvā mama śāpāt pāpāc ca vimokṣyase. sainyānāṃ tu tava eteṣāṃ putra-pautra-balānvitānāṃ yaḥ tava ājñāṃ kariṣyati sa ghoraṃ śāpaṃ na prāpsyati.

“Dhaneśvara, Panginoon ng Kayamanan! Ang masamang-pusong kaibigan mo ay umalipusta sa akin sa harap mo mismo, binale-wala ako at hinamak. Bilang bunga ng gawaing iyon, ang lalaking ito ay papatayin ng kamay ng iisang tao, kasama ng lahat ng mga kawal na ito. Nalihis ang iyong paghatol; kaya matapos mong tiisin ang dalamhati para sa mga kawal na ito kapag sila’y napatay, muli mong masisilayan ang mismong taong iyon at mapapalaya ka sa aking sumpa at sa kasalanan. Gayunman, sa hanay ng mga hukbong ito—na pinalalakas ng mga anak, apo, at lakas sa digmaan—sinumang susunod sa iyong utos ay hindi madadapuan ng kakila-kilabot na sumpang ito.”

Disrespect and public humiliation of a worthy person generate severe moral consequences; the verse frames this as an inevitable karmic ‘fruit’ expressed through a curse. It also highlights responsibility in leadership: right command and obedience can mitigate collective ruin, while distorted judgment leads to grief and further entanglement in sin.

A speaker addresses ‘Dhaneśvara’ and declares that because Dhaneśvara’s wicked companion insulted the speaker in Dhaneśvara’s presence, a curse will take effect: the offender will be killed by a single man, and the troops associated with him will also perish. Dhaneśvara will later suffer grief over the slain soldiers, and only afterward—upon seeing that same man again—will he be released from the curse and sin. An exception is stated: any soldier who follows Dhaneśvara’s command will be spared the curse’s effect.
