Kṛṣṇa at Duryodhana’s House: Refusal of Hospitality and Departure to Vidura (कृष्णस्य धार्तराष्ट्रनिवेशनगमनम्)
(कुरूणां पाण्डवानां च लोकानां चापराजित । सर्वस्यैतस्य वाष्णेय गतिस्त्वमसि माधव ।।
vaiśampāyana uvāca | kurūṇāṃ pāṇḍavānāṃ ca lokānāṃ cāparājita | sarvasyaitasya vāṣṇeya gatistvamasi mādhava || prabhāvo buddhivīryaṃ ca tādṛśaṃ tava keśava || tām āmantrya ca govindaḥ kṛtvā cābhipradakṣiṇam | prātiṣṭhata mahābāhur duryodhanagṛhān prati ||
Sinabi ni Vaiśampāyana: “O Mādhava na di magagapi, supling ng angkan ng Vṛṣṇi! Ikaw ang kanlungan at huling sandigan ng mga Kuru, ng mga Pāṇḍava, at ng lahat ng daigdig. O Keśava, ang iyong karangalan at ang lakas ng iyong matalinong paghatol ay tunay na karapat-dapat sa iyo.” Pagkaraang magpaalam nang may paggalang, si Govinda—matapos ikutin si Kuntī (Pṛthā) bilang pagpupugay—ay umalis, ang makapangyarihang mandirigmang iyon, patungo sa bahay ni Duryodhana.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even amid impending war, the highest ethical orientation is to recognize the true ‘gati’—the ultimate refuge and guiding intelligence. The verse frames Kṛṣṇa as the stabilizing moral and cosmic recourse for both sides, implying that right counsel and discerning power (buddhi-vīrya) are central to dharma in crisis.
After being praised as the refuge of all and acknowledged for his power and intellect, Kṛṣṇa respectfully takes leave of Kuntī by circumambulating her and then proceeds toward Duryodhana’s house—signaling the next step in his diplomatic engagement with the Kaurava leadership.
