Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how desire and resentment, when reinforced by anger and greed, distort judgment and push people toward harmful, disruptive actions—an ethical warning that inner passions can become the root cause of social conflict.

Vaiśampāyana characterizes certain men as being driven by passion and wrath and under the control of anger and greed, implying that their arrival and intentions are to create turmoil—setting a moral frame for the unfolding political and martial tensions of the Udyoga Parva.
