Bhīṣma’s Śara-śayyā Stuti to Vāsudeva and Yogic Preparation for Dehotsarga

Body-Relinquishment

Educational Q&A

The many guṇa-formed beings depend upon and are sustained by the one Supreme Lord (Bhūteśa), just as beads depend on a thread; all existence rests in that Reality and ultimately returns to it.

In the Śānti Parva’s instruction section, Bhishma continues his philosophical counsel, using a vivid simile (beads on a thread) to explain how all creatures are held together by the Supreme and how their origin, support, and dissolution are in Him.
