Nāga-āyatana-darśana-pratīkṣā — The Brāhmaṇa’s Request and Waiting on the Gomatī
ऋषी शमदमोपेतौ कृत्वा पौर्वाह्निकं विधिम् | पश्चान्नारदमव्यग्रौ पाद्यार्ष्याभ्यामथार्चत:
vaiśampāyana uvāca | ṛṣī śama-damopetau kṛtvā paurvāhṇikaṁ vidhim | paścān nāradam avyagrau pādyārghyābhyām athārcataḥ ||
Sinabi ni Vaiśampāyana: Ang dalawang rishi, na may taglay na śama at dama—kapayapaan at pagpipigil-sa-sarili—ay tinapos ang ritwal sa umaga ayon sa tuntunin. Pagkaraan, nang walang ligalig sa isip, pinarangalan nila si Nārada—naghandog ng tubig na pampaghugas ng paa at ng alay na arghya—at sinamba siya sa payapa at mapitagang diwa.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic conduct: disciplined sages (śama and dama) first fulfill daily duties, then honor a revered guest with proper hospitality (pādya and arghya). Ethical life is shown as a blend of inner restraint and outward reverence.
After completing their morning ritual obligations, two calm and undistracted sages formally receive and worship Nārada by offering traditional honorific items—water for his feet and arghya—signaling respect and readiness to engage with him.
