Vasiṣṭha on Saṃsāra, Guṇas, and Misattributed Agency

Mahābhārata 12.292

स्वाध्यायेन महर्षिभ्यो देवेभ्यो यज्ञकर्मणा । पितृभ्य: श्राद्धदानेन नृणामभ्यर्चनेन च

svādhyāyena maharṣibhyo devebhyo yajñakarmaṇā | pitṛbhyaḥ śrāddhadānena nṛṇām abhyarcaneṇa ca ||

Wika ni Parāśara: Sa pagbigkas at pag-aaral ng Veda (svādhyāya), nababayaran ng tao ang utang niya sa mga dakilang rishi; sa mga ritwal na handog (yajña), naibabalik ang nararapat sa mga diyos; sa mga alay na śrāddha at sa pagbibigay, napalulugod ang mga ninuno; at sa paggalang at paglilingkod sa kapwa—lalo na sa mga panauhin—napapalaya ang tao sa utang na loob sa sangkatauhan. Kaya ang buhay ay dapat isabuhay bilang disiplinadong pagtupad at pagbabayad sa mga pangunahing pananagutang ito.
