Adhyāya 284: Tapas as a Corrective to Household Attachment
Parāśara’s Instruction
The verse identifies the Supreme (addressed as 'you') as the inner essence of scripture (Vedas/Upaniṣads) and of ritual action (āhuti). Ethical and spiritual life is thus grounded in recognizing one reality behind knowledge, worship, and dharma.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma is instructing and praising the highest principle/deity while teaching Yudhiṣṭhira. Here he offers a stuti that frames Vedic recitation and sacrificial offering as ultimately directed to—and constituted by—the same Supreme reality.
