Shloka 49

अन्यानपि महाराज तापयामास पार्थिवान्‌ | महाराज! इसी प्रकार अंशुमाली सूर्यके समान अन्यान्य राजाओंको भी वे अपने बाणोंकी वर्षासे संतप्त करने लगे || ४८ ह ।।

sañjaya uvāca |

anyān api mahārāja tāpayāmāsa pārthivān |

parāṅmukhīkṛtya tathā śaravarṣair amahārathān |

atha bhārata! tān sarvān mahārathīn bāṇavarṣadvārā vimukhīkṛtya arjunaḥ saṅgrāmabhūmau kaurava-pāṇḍavayoḥ senayor madhye raktasya bahulāṃ nadīm avāhayat |

Wika ni Sanjaya: O dakilang hari, sinunog din niya—sa tindi ng pinsala—ang iba pang mga pinuno. Gaya ng maningning na Araw, sinimulan niyang pahirapan pa ang marami pang hari sa pamamagitan ng ulang palaso. Pagkaraan, O Bharata, sa pagtalikod ng maging mga mandirigmang hindi kabilang sa mga dakilang nakakarwahe sa ilalim ng sunod-sunod na buhos ng palaso, at sa pagtulak pabalik sa mga maharathi sa walang patid na pag-ulan ng mga pana, si Arjuna ay nagpaagos sa larangan sa pagitan ng mga hukbo ng Kaurava at Pandava ng isang napakalawak na ilog ng dugo. Ipinakikita ng talatang ito ang kakila-kilabot na halagang moral ng digmaan: ang galing ay nakaaabot sa layuning taktikal, ngunit kasabay nito’y pinalalawak ang pagdurusa hanggang mantsahan ang lupang nasa pagitan ng magkakamag-anak.
