शिखण्डिनं च पुत्रास्ते पाण्डवं च धनंजयम्‌ । राजशि: समरे पार्थमभिपेतुर्जिघांसव:

śikhaṇḍinaṃ ca putrās te pāṇḍavaṃ ca dhanañjayam | rājarṣiḥ samare pārtham abhipetur jighāṃsavaḥ ||

Sinabi ni Sañjaya: Ang iyong mga anak, na may hangaring pumatay, ay sumalakay sa labanan laban kay Śikhaṇḍin at laban sa Pāṇḍava na si Dhanañjaya (Arjuna). Kasama nila, ang mga nagkakatipong hari ay sumulong din patungo kay Pārtha sa larangan—uudyok ng pasyang pabagsakin ang dalawang iyon. Ipinakikita ng taludtod ang moral na tensiyon ng digmaan: ang personal na poot at pangangailangang pang-estratehiya ay tumitigas bilang kolektibong pagnanais na manira, kahit ang puntirya ay mga tauhang sentral sa pinagtatalunang dharma at sa wastong asal sa digmaan.
