Mahabharata — Ashvamedhika Parva, Shloka 50

Mokṣa-dharma Yoga-Upadeśa: Equanimity, Sense-Restraint, and Vision of the Ātman (आत्मदर्शन-योगोपदेशः)

जीवो निष्क्रान्तमात्मानं शरीरात्‌ सम्प्रपश्यति । स तमुत्सृज्य देहे स्वं धारयन्‌ ब्रह्म केवलम्‌

jīvo niṣkrāntam ātmānaṃ śarīrāt samprapaśyati | sa tam utsṛjya dehe svaṃ dhārayan brahma kevalam |

Wika ng brāhmaṇa: “Nakikita ng indibidwal na sarili ang sarili nito na tila lumabas—hiwalay sa katawan. Bagama’t nananahan pa sa loob ng katawan, iniiwan niya ang pagkakakilanlan sa katawan, batid ang pagkakahiwalay nito, at kumakapit lamang sa dalisay na Brahman. Ang nakaaalam ng katotohanan ay nagmumuni sa Kataas-taasang Panginoon bilang tunay niyang kalikasan, at sa tulong ng mapanuring talino ay tuwirang natatanto ang Sarili. Sa gayong kalagayan, halos napapangiti siya sa pag-iisip: ‘Ay! Gaya ng tubig na nakikita sa mirage, ang sanlibutang ito—na lumilitaw lamang sa loob ko—ay hanggang ngayo’y nagpalubog sa akin sa walang saysay na pagkalito.’ Ang nakakakita sa Kataas-taasan nang ganito ay sumisilong sa Kanya, at sa huli’y napapalaya sa Akin—namamalagi sa tuwirang pagdanas sa Kataas-taasan sa loob ng sariling Sarili.”
