अनुशासनपर्व अध्याय ९३ — तपस्, सदोपवास, विघसाशन, अतिथिप्रियता

Austerity, regulated fasting, residual-eating, and hospitality

यतयो मोक्षधर्मज्ञा योगा: सुचरितव्रता: । (पाज्चरात्रविदो मुख्यास्तथा भागवता: परे | वैखानसा: कुलश्रेष्ठा वैदिकाचारचारिण: ।।

bhīṣma uvāca | yatayo mokṣadharmajñā yogāḥ sucaritavratāḥ | pāñcarātravido mukhyās tathā bhāgavatāḥ pare | vaikhānasāḥ kulaśreṣṭhā vaidikācāracāriṇaḥ || ye cetihāsaṃ prayatāḥ śrāvayanti dvijottamān |

Sinabi ni Bhishma: Ang mga ascetic (yatī) na nakaaalam sa dharma ng paglaya (mokṣa-dharma)—mga yogin na mahusay tumupad sa mga panata—yaong nangunguna sa mga nakaaalam ng tradisyong Pāñcarātra, at ang pinakadakilang mga Bhāgavata; ang mararangal na tagasunod ng Vaikhānasa, pinakamainam sa kanilang angkan, na namumuhay ayon sa kaugaliang Veda—ang mga disiplinadong taong ito, masigasig sa banal na tungkulin, ay nagbibigkas ng Itihāsa para sa pinakamahuhusay na dwija. Pinupuri ng talatang ito ang mga Brahmanang marunong at may pagpipigil-sa-sarili, at ang mga dalubhasa sa debosyon at ritwal: sa kanilang pag-aaral, panata, at tapat na pagsasabuhay, sila’y nagiging huwarang tagapaglinis ng lipunan at karapat-dapat na tagapagpasa ng banal na kasaysayan at dharma.
