Bhīṣma uvāca: vedaśāstrāṇi sarvāṇi dharmāṃś ca manu-jeśvara | vedāṃś caturaḥ sarvān nikhilenānubuddhyase ||
Wika ni Bhishma: “O panginoon ng mga tao, ganap mong naunawaan ang apat na Veda at ang buong kalipunan ng mga banal na kasulatan; at nauunawaan mo rin, sa kabuuan nito, ang mga simulain ng dharma.”
भीष्म उवाच
That true authority in ethical instruction rests on comprehensive understanding—both of scripture (Vedas and śāstras) and of dharma’s inner principles; Bhishma frames the listener as already competent to grasp subtle moral guidance.
Bhishma, in his extended counsel during the Anushasana Parva, addresses the king and acknowledges his grasp of the four Vedas, the śāstras, and dharma—an opening move that prepares the ground for further detailed instruction on righteous conduct.
