Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity

नाध्यापयेत्‌ तथोच्छिष्टो नाधीयीत कदाचन । वाते च पूतिगन्धे च मनसापि न चिन्तयेत्‌

na adhyāpayet tathocchiṣṭo nādhīyīta kadācana | vāte ca pūtigandhe ca manasāpi na cintayet ||

Sinabi ni Bhīṣma: Ang sinumang nasa kalagayang marumi ayon sa ritwal dahil kakakain pa lamang (may natitirang pagkain sa bibig) ay hindi dapat magturo ng banal na teksto, at hindi rin dapat magsagawa ng sariling pagbigkas (svādhyāya) kailanman. Maging kapag may hanging mabaho, hindi rin dapat kahit sa isip ay pagnilayan ang pagbigkas. Itinuturo nito ang paggalang sa pag-aaral at pagtuturo ng Veda, na nangangailangan ng kalinisan ng katawan at ng kapaligiran bilang bahagi ng disiplin ng dharma.
