Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity
Bhishma teaches practical disciplines of purity and restraint: avoid morally and ritually vulnerable places/times (like crossroads at twilight) and avoid using items worn by others, as part of maintaining śauca (cleanliness) and brahmacarya (self-control).
In Anushasana Parva, Bhishma is instructing Yudhishthira on dharma. This verse is part of a set of behavioral injunctions (ācāra) describing what a disciplined person should avoid in daily life.
