Bhīṣma’s Counsel on Reconciliation and Partition (भीष्मोपदेशः—संधि-राज्यविभागविचारः)
प्रतिनन्द्य स तां पूजां पृष्टवा कुशलमन्ततः । आसने काज्चने शुद्धे निषसाद महामना:
pratinandya sa tāṁ pūjāṁ pṛṣṭvā kuśalam antataḥ | āsane kāñcane śuddhe niṣasāda mahāmanāḥ ||
Matapos niyang tanggapin nang may lugod at purihin ang paggalang na inihandog sa kanya, saka niya tinanong ang kanilang kalagayan at mga mabubuting pangyayari. Ang dakilang pantas na si Vyāsa ay umupo sa isang dalisay na luklukan na yari sa ginto.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic etiquette: one should receive honor without arrogance, respond with goodwill, and begin interaction by asking after others’ welfare (kuśala). Reverence is completed not merely by ritual offering but by mutual auspiciousness, humility, and proper conduct.
After being honored with worship, the revered sage (understood as Vyāsa in the narrative context) expresses acceptance, then asks about everyone’s well-being, and finally takes his seat on a pure golden seat, marking the formal beginning of the ensuing conversation or instruction.
