Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Philosophy","secondary_vidya":"Ayurveda","practical_application":"Sense-physiology: links jñānendriyas to mahābhūtas and their viṣayas/guṇas, aiding both medical assessment of sensory deficits and yogic discrimination of perception.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Definition","entry_title":"Jñānendriya–bhūta–viṣaya sambandha (Sense organs, elements, objects)","lookup_keywords":["jñānendriya","mahābhūta","śabda","sparśa","rūpa","rasa-gandha"],"quick_summary":"Defines the five sense organs (plus mind/intellect) as element-linked and assigns their objects—sound, touch, form, taste, smell—forming a standard taxonomy for physiology and sāṃkhya-yoga analysis."}
Dosha: Tridosha
Concept: Indriyas are bhūta-sambaddha; mind/intellect mediates experience—basis for pratyāhāra and viveka between viṣaya and draṣṭṛ.
Application: Supports yogic practice: observe viṣaya-contact, reduce sensory scattering, and cultivate inwardness (pratyāhāra) by understanding the sense-object chain.
Khanda Section: Ayurveda / Sharira (Anatomy and Sense-Physiology)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Agni teaching a chart of sense organs connected by lines to the five elements and to their objects: sound, touch, form, taste, smell; mind/intellect shown as central coordinator.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural: Agni seated with disciples; behind him a mandala-like diagram linking ear/skin/eye/tongue/nose to pañca-bhūtas and to śabda-sparśa-rūpa-rasa-gandha; bold outlines, traditional palette.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore: Agni with gold halo; ornate diagram panel with gold leaf nodes for indriyas and guṇas; rich reds/greens, temple aesthetic borders.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore style: clean pedagogical chart with delicate lines; labeled indriyas and viṣayas; Agni pointing, palm-leaf manuscript on a stand; emphasis on legibility.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature: scholarly lecture in a library; a painted folio shows a network diagram of senses and elements; fine calligraphy and subdued tones."}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: इत्य् = इति; नामाष्टष्ट्यधिकत्रिशततमो = नाम + अष्टषष्ट्यधिकत्रिशततमः; 'अध्यायः' preceded by 'ऽ' = अ + अध्यायः; अथोनसप्तत्यधिकत्रिशततमो = अथ + ऊनसप्तत्यधिकत्रिशततमः; अग्निर् = अग्निः; text has unclear 'खुञ्च/खु च' and 'भूतगं' readings.
Related Themes: Agni Purana 369 (continuation on avayavas and indriyas); Agni Purana 370+ (likely prāṇa/nāḍī/yoga topics in adjacent sections, depending on recension)
It imparts a technical mapping of the sense organs (indriyas) to their respective sensory objects/qualities—sound, touch, form, taste, and smell—grounding bodily anatomy in elemental (mahābhūta) theory used in Ayurveda and Sāṃkhya-style physiology.
By shifting from cosmological/embryological themes into systematic body-knowledge, it shows the Agni Purāṇa’s compendium style—cataloguing anatomy, perception, and elemental correspondences alongside ritual, dharma, and other sciences.
Understanding the senses and their objects supports restraint (indriya-nigraha) and discernment, helping practitioners reduce attachment to sensory stimuli—an aid to purification and steady spiritual practice.
