FAQs

It gives a procedural rule for admitting the disciple into the ritual maṇḍapa, seating him (on a proper seat and kuśa), and having the Guru perform saṃśodhana—ritual purification/verification before the next rite.

Beyond mythology, the Agni Purana functions as a practical ritual handbook: it preserves precise operational details—directional placement (south side), proper seating materials (kuśa), and the Guru’s supervisory role—typical of its manual-like, multi-disciplinary scope.

Entering correctly, sitting on ritually pure kuśa, and undergoing the Guru’s saṃśodhana is meant to remove impurity and ensure eligibility (adhikāra), supporting the rite’s efficacy and the disciple’s spiritual purification.
