Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Cosmology","secondary_vidya":"Philosophy","practical_application":"Completes the prākṛta-sarga triad by naming the third stage (vaikārika/aindriyaka), supporting systematic teaching of sense-evolution and mind-body cosmology.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Definition","entry_title":"Sarga III: Vaikārika (Aindriyaka) — sensory creation","lookup_keywords":["vaikarika","aindriyaka","prakrita-sarga","indriya","buddhi"],"quick_summary":"Identifies the third stage of material creation as Vaikārika, i.e., the sensory/indriya-related creation, and states that prākṛta creation proceeds with Buddhi as the prior principle."}

Concept: Indriya-pravṛtti as a cosmological stage: the sensory apparatus is an evolute within prakṛti’s unfolding, not an ultimate self.

Application: Supports discrimination (viveka) between seer and instruments of seeing; useful in yoga-style contemplation on senses as evolutes to be regulated.

Khanda Section: Sarga-Prakriya (Cosmology: Evolution of Creation and Tattvas)

Primary Rasa: Shanta

Secondary Rasa: Adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A conceptual illustration of ‘sensory creation’: Buddhi as a luminous source giving rise to the indriyas (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin) and action faculties, shown as emanating rays or icons.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, central glowing Buddhi orb, radiating stylized indriya symbols (eye, ear, etc.) in lotus medallions, traditional borders, subdued sacred palette","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, Buddhi as gold-embossed central medallion, indriyas as jeweled icons around, ornate gold work, symmetrical mandala composition","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, instructional diagram with fine outlines, labeled indriyas in cartouches, arrows from Buddhi, calm pastel wash background","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, manuscript marginal diagram with delicate calligraphy, central intellect figure or lamp, surrounding sensory icons, refined detailing and balanced composition"}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"instructional","suggested_raga":"Hamsadhwani","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: वैकारिकस्तृतीयस्तु = वैकारिकः + तृतीयः + तु (visarga before t → s); सर्ग ऐन्द्रियकः = सर्गः + ऐन्द्रियकः (visarga before vowel dropped in saṃhitā); इत्येष = इति + एषः (y-insertion)

FAQs

It imparts Sāṅkhya-based cosmological classification: the third (vaikārika) creation is the aindriyaka phase—i.e., the emergence/ordering of the sense-faculties within the prākṛta (prakṛti-born) evolution, with buddhi as the prior principle.

By preserving technical cosmology (tattva-sṛṣṭi) vocabulary—prakṛti, buddhi, indriyas, sarga—this chapter functions like a compact philosophical manual alongside the Purāṇa’s many other disciplines (ritual, polity, medicine, arts).

Understanding creation as an ordered evolution from buddhi and the indriyas encourages discernment (viveka) and detachment from sensory compulsion, supporting purificatory insight that aligns action (karma) with higher knowledge rather than mere sense-driven impulse.
