अत्रैवैषा युगावस्था चतुर्वर्णश्च वै जनः । चत्वारि त्रीणि च द्वे च तथैवैक शरच्छतम्

atraivaiṣā yugāvasthā caturvarṇaśca vai janaḥ | catvāri trīṇi ca dve ca tathaivaika śaracchatam

ณที่นี้แลมีลำดับแห่งยุคทั้งหลาย และ ณ ที่นี้มนุษย์ก็จัดอยู่ในสี่วรรณะด้วย ระยะของยุคทั้งหลายเป็นสี่ สาม สอง และหนึ่ง ตามมาตราว่า “ศตวรรษแห่งฤดูสารท” หนึ่งร้อยเป็นเกณฑ์
