sūta uvāca | tasya taṃ niścayaṃ jñātvā sa pitā sutavatsalaḥ | sarvasvaṃ pradadau ruṣṭo maraṇe kṛtaniścayaḥ
Sūta (Lomaharṣaṇa)
Scene: A stern father, eyes reddened with anger yet softened by affection, distributes wealth to recipients; household goods being handed over; the son watches, tense and remorseful.
Even when emotions run high, major life-decisions should be guided toward dharma and purification rather than self-destruction.
The immediate verse sets the narrative; the adhyāya’s resolution points to Viṣṇupadī Gaṅgā in this kṣetra as the purifying tīrtha.
A decisive act of giving away wealth (sarvasva-dāna) is described; later verses add the corrective prescription of tīrtha-snānā for purification.
