दूरादतिथयो यस्य गृहमायांति निर्वृताः । स गृहस्थ इति प्रोक्तः शेषाश्च गृहरक्षिणः
dūrādatithayo yasya gṛhamāyāṃti nirvṛtāḥ | sa gṛhastha iti proktaḥ śeṣāśca gṛharakṣiṇaḥ
ผู้ใดที่อาคันตุกะมาเยือนเรือนของเขาด้วยความยินดี แม้จากแดนไกล ผู้นั้นแลจึงเรียกว่า ‘คฤหัสถ์’ โดยแท้; ส่วนที่เหลือเป็นเพียงผู้เฝ้าบ้านเท่านั้น
