yataḥ prabhṛti viprebhyo dattaṃ tena mahātmanā | camatkāreṇa tatsthānaṃ nāmnā khyātiṃ tato gatam
Sūta (Lomaharṣaṇa)
Tirtha: Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra (name-fame linked to dāna)
Type: kshetra
Listener: Brāhmaṇas/ṛṣis
Scene: A great-souled donor formally gifting land/wealth to brāhmaṇas; a miraculous sign (light, rain of flowers, divine voice) causing the place to gain its celebrated name.
Dāna (pious gifting), especially honoring brāhmaṇas, becomes a cause for lasting sanctification and sacred renown of a place.
The place later famed as Camatkārapura (by reason of a “camatkāra”), within the same kṣetra narrative.
Dāna is implied: the great-souled person “gave” (dattam) to the vipras; details of the gift are not specified in this verse.
