वर्णाश्रमपरिध्वंसाः प्रवर्तंते च द्वापरे । तदा व्यासैश्चतुर्द्धा च व्यस्यते द्वापरात्ततः

varṇāśramaparidhvaṃsāḥ pravartaṃte ca dvāpare | tadā vyāsaiścaturddhā ca vyasyate dvāparāttataḥ

ในยุคทวาประ ระเบียบวรรณะและอาศรมเริ่มเสื่อมสลายลง ครั้นนั้นเหล่าวยาสะได้จัดพระเวทหนึ่งเดียวให้แบ่งเป็นสี่ภาค—ธรรมเนียมนี้สืบต่อมาตั้งแต่ทวาประเป็นต้นไป
