संसदि व्रीडयाऽश्रुत्य आर्थिभ्यः प्रददाति च । प्रतिदीयते च यद्दानं व्रीडादानमिति श्रुतम्

Transliteration

saṃsadi vrīḍayā'śrutya ārthibhyaḥ pradadāti ca | pratidīyate ca yaddānaṃ vrīḍādānamiti śrutam

Translation

ทานที่ให้แก่ผู้มาขอในที่ประชุมด้วยความอาย เกรงว่าจะถูกนินทา และทานนั้นยังได้รับการตอบแทนคืน—ทานเช่นนี้เรียกว่า “วรีฑาทาน” (ทานเพราะความละอาย)
