इति पृष्टस्तदा सूतो नैमिषारण्यवासिभिः । वक्तुं प्रचक्रमे तत्र व्यासं नत्वा गुरुं मुदा । श्रीसूत उवाच । राज्यार्थं कलहे जाते पांडवानां पुरा द्विजाः । धार्तराष्ट्रैर्महायुद्धे महदक्षौहिणीयुते

iti pṛṣṭastadā sūto naimiṣāraṇyavāsibhiḥ | vaktuṃ pracakrame tatra vyāsaṃ natvā guruṃ mudā | śrīsūta uvāca | rājyārthaṃ kalahe jāte pāṃḍavānāṃ purā dvijāḥ | dhārtarāṣṭrairmahāyuddhe mahadakṣauhiṇīyute

ครั้นถูกชาวนัยมิษารัณยะทูลถามดังนั้น สุตะก็เริ่มกล่าว ณ ที่นั้น ด้วยความปีติกราบนอบน้อมแด่ครูคือพระวยาส แล้วศรีสุตะกล่าวว่า: “โอ้พราหมณ์ทั้งหลาย กาลก่อนเมื่อเกิดวิวาทเรื่องราชสมบัติของปาณฑพ ก็มีมหาสงครามกับโอรสแห่งธฤตราษฏระ พร้อมด้วยกองทัพอักษौหิณีอันไพศาล”
