vyāsa uvāca | śṛṇu rājanpravakṣyāmi karṇāṭakaviceṣṭitam | devānāṃ dānavānāṃ yo duḥsaho vīryadarpitaḥ

วยาสะกล่าวว่า: “ข้าแต่พระราชา จงสดับเถิด บัดนี้เราจักเล่าถึงวีรกรรมของกรณาฏกะ ผู้หลงระเริงด้วยทิฐิแห่งกำลัง จนเป็นที่ทนมิได้ทั้งแก่เหล่าเทวะและพวกทานวะ”
