tatra snātvā vidhānena yastu pūjayate śivam | anivartikā gatistasya rudralokādasaṃśayam
Mārkaṇḍeya (contextual continuation)
Tirtha: Karkaṭeśvara
Type: kshetra
Listener: Dharmaputra (Yudhiṣṭhira)
Scene: At dawn, a pilgrim bathes in the Narmadā with folded hands, then approaches a riverside Śiva-liṅga shrine to offer bilva leaves and water; above, a subtle celestial vista hints at Rudraloka.
Ritual purity and devotion—snāna followed by Śiva-pūjā—are portrayed as leading to the highest post-mortem goal in a Śaiva frame.
The same Narmadā-bank tīrtha of Karkaṭeśvara described in Adhyāya 137.
Bathe at the tīrtha according to vidhi (proper procedure) and then worship Śiva.
