पुराणश्रवणप्रस्तावः
Prologue to the Recitation of the Śaiva Purāṇa
तस्मादीशप्रसादार्थं यूयं गत्वा भुवं द्विजाः । दीर्घसत्रं समाकृध्वं यूयं वर्षसहस्रकम्
tasmādīśaprasādārthaṃ yūyaṃ gatvā bhuvaṃ dvijāḥ | dīrghasatraṃ samākṛdhvaṃ yūyaṃ varṣasahasrakam
Suta Goswami (narrating the Purāṇic account and its injunctions to the sages)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Significance: General injunction: sustained religious discipline aimed at obtaining Īśa’s prasāda; can be mapped onto long-term vrata/anuṣṭhāna undertaken at major Śiva-kṣetras.
Offering: naivedya
The verse emphasizes that īśa-prasāda (Śiva’s grace) is the decisive spiritual force, and that disciplined, sustained sacred action (satra) becomes a vehicle for inner purification and eligibility for that grace.
Although it speaks in the language of Vedic rite, its aim is devotionally Shaiva—seeking Śiva’s favor. In the Shiva Purana, such rites are ultimately meant to culminate in focused worship of Saguna Śiva, commonly expressed through Linga-upāsanā and surrender to the Lord.
It suggests undertaking an extended yajña (dīrgha-satra) with steadfast discipline; as a practical Shaiva takeaway, one may pair ritual observance with japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) to orient the rite toward Śiva’s grace.
