ध्यानप्रकारनिर्णयः / Determination of the Modes of Meditation
on Śrīkaṇṭha-Śiva
योगाभ्यासस्तथाल्पे ऽपि यथा पापं विनाशयेत् । ध्यायतः क्षणमात्रं वा श्रद्धया परमेश्वरम्
yogābhyāsastathālpe 'pi yathā pāpaṃ vināśayet | dhyāyataḥ kṣaṇamātraṃ vā śraddhayā parameśvaram

Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Jyotirlinga: Vaidyanātha
Sthala Purana: Parameśvara as the supreme healer: the archetype echoed in the Vaidyanātha Jyotirliṅga tradition where Śiva removes afflictions and grants well-being; even momentary remembrance is portrayed as medicinal to pāpa/kleśa.
Significance: Removes pāpa and grants ārogya and inner purification; supports the doctrine that even brief, faith-filled contact with Śiva yields transformative grace.
Role: liberating
It teaches that Śiva’s grace responds to sincere effort: even minimal yogic discipline or momentary, faith-filled meditation on Parameśvara can burn accumulated pāpa and purify the bound soul (paśu), supporting the Shaiva aim of liberation through inner cleansing.
Meditation “with faith” can be performed on Saguna Śiva—especially the Śiva-liṅga as a stable support for dhyāna—so that the mind becomes one-pointed; such focused remembrance is presented as powerful enough to remove impurities even when brief.
A practical takeaway is short daily dhyāna on Śiva with śraddhā—optionally before a liṅga—supported by japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and simple yogic steadiness (āsana, breath calming) to intensify inner purification.
