It defines the mark of inner liberation: the yogin’s consciousness is free from sense-driven compulsion and egoic appropriation (abhimāna), yet he remains awake and functional—freedom is not dullness but Shiva-oriented clarity.
Linga-worship trains the mind to rest in Shiva as Pati (the Lord) rather than in objects as possessions; as devotion matures, saṅkalpa and ‘mine-ness’ weaken, and the devotee lives in the world without bondage while honoring Saguna Shiva as the doorway to the transcendent.
Meditative restraint of saṅkalpa through japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and steady Linga-dhyāna is implied; the practical takeaway is to observe sense-contact without grasping, offering all experiences to Shiva.
