Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
Sthala Purana: The verse evokes institutional Śaiva dharma (adhyakṣatva) rather than a specific liṅga-site; it aligns with the idea of Śiva appointing protectors/overseers of vrata, pūjā, and conduct.
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It praises the ideal Shaiva devotee/guardian of Śiva’s observances: one who is consecrated to uphold Śiva-dharma and whose inner life is defined by loving attachment to Pati (Śiva), indicating that authority in religion arises from devotion and consecration, not mere status.
By describing one who is “dear to Śiva” and “devoted to Śiva,” the verse points to Saguna-upāsanā—personal worship of Śiva (commonly through the Liṅga) expressed as disciplined Shaiva conduct (śivadharma) and steadfast bhakti.
The verse emphasizes śivadharma—regular Shaiva observances—best supported by daily Liṅga-pūjā with mantra-japa (especially the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and a life of devoted remembrance of Śiva.
