It teaches that worship begins with śodhana—sanctifying the means of worship through mantra and consecrated water—so the offering becomes spiritually fit for Pati (Śiva) and the devotee’s mind is aligned with purity and reverence.
In Saguna worship such as Liṅga-pūjā, materials are not used casually; they are ritually transformed through prokṣaṇa and the mūla-mantra, affirming that the Liṅga is approached as a living, consecrated presence of Śiva.
Perform prokṣaṇa (sprinkling) of all puja items using the prokṣaṇī water while reciting the Śaiva root mantra—commonly understood in practice as the Panchākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya")—as a concise act of purification and consecration.
