विष्णुचेष्टितवर्णनम् / Account of Viṣṇu’s Stratagem and Its Aftermath
जलंधरो हतो युद्धे तद्भयान्मो चिता वयम् । गिरिशेन कृपां कृत्वा भक्तानुग्रहकारिणा
jalaṃdharo hato yuddhe tadbhayānmo citā vayam | giriśena kṛpāṃ kṛtvā bhaktānugrahakāriṇā
Devas (gods), speaking in praise of Lord Shiva (as narrated by Suta Goswami)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Not tied to a specific Jyotirliṅga; it is a deva-stuti after the defeat of Jalaṃdhara, emphasizing Śiva’s grace as bhaktānugraha.
Significance: Soteriological: hearing/reciting this praise reinforces the doctrine that liberation from fear/bondage comes by Śiva’s compassion (anugraha), not merely by deva-power.
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
Offering: pushpa
The verse emphasizes Śiva as Bhaktānugrahakārī—He removes the devotee’s fear and bondage through compassion (anugraha), showing that liberation is ultimately granted by the Lord’s grace.
Girīśa is invoked as the personal, Saguna Lord who actively protects and blesses; Linga-worship similarly approaches Śiva as present and responsive, bestowing anugraha and removing भय (fear).
Cultivate bhakti and seek Śiva’s anugraha through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and simple daily Śiva-pūjā (e.g., offering water to the Linga), praying specifically for freedom from fear and inner bondage.
