Description of the Viṣṇu–Brahmā Dispute and Brahmā’s Confusion
इति संशयमापन्नं बुद्धिर्मां समपद्यत । किमर्थं मोहमायामि तज्ज्ञानं सुकरं खलु
iti saṃśayamāpannaṃ buddhirmāṃ samapadyata | kimarthaṃ mohamāyāmi tajjñānaṃ sukaraṃ khalu
Brahmā (reflecting in doubt during the creation narrative, as recounted within Rudrasaṃhitā)
Tattva Level: pashu
Role: teaching
Cosmic Event: epistemic crisis of the created intellect under māyā during early sarga
It captures the moment when the intellect recognizes its own bondage to moha (delusion) and turns toward liberating knowledge—pointing, in Shaiva understanding, to the need for Shiva’s grace and right discernment to cross māyā.
The verse reflects the seeker’s shift from confusion to the pursuit of accessible true knowledge; in the Shiva Purana, Saguna Shiva—often approached through Linga worship—becomes the compassionate, graspable support through which the mind gains steadiness and clarity toward the higher truth.
A practical takeaway is japa and dhyāna to dispel moha—especially steady repetition of the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with simple Linga-upāsanā, supported by purity disciplines like bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and rudrākṣa where appropriate.
