पुष्पार्पण-विनिर्णयः
Determination of Flower-Offerings to Śiva
मासि तेनैव तैलेन भोगवृद्धिः प्रजायते । सार्षपेनैव तैलेन शत्रुनाशोभवेद्ध्रुवम्
māsi tenaiva tailena bhogavṛddhiḥ prajāyate | sārṣapenaiva tailena śatrunāśobhaveddhruvam
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Connects sustained practice (one month of taila-dhārā) with bhoga-vृद्धि (worldly prosperity) and specifies mustard oil for śatru-nāśa, illustrating graded fruits within dharmic worship while implying higher aim remains Śiva’s grace.
It presents a phala-śruti style teaching: when offerings are made with faith and regularity, worldly obstacles and needs are pacified—so the devotee can steady the mind and turn it toward Shiva, the Pati who grants both bhoga (rightful well-being) and, ultimately, moksha.
Oil is part of upacāra (devotional services) offered to Saguna Shiva in Linga worship; the verse frames such offerings as disciplined, time-bound worship whose fruits culminate in protection and prosperity, supporting continued devotion to the Linga as Shiva’s accessible form.
A sustained monthly observance using the indicated oil as an offering in Shiva-pūjā (with mantra-japa such as the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) is implied; the takeaway is consistency in devotional practice rather than a one-time act.
