Consolation of the Devas and the Ordinance of Consequences in the Dakṣa-Yajña Episode
atha viṣṇuḥ prasannātmā tuṣṭāva vṛṣabhadhvajam | bāṣpagadgadayā vāṇyā supraṇamya kṛtāṃjaliḥ
Suta Goswami (narrating the episode; the verse describes Vishnu’s act of praise toward Shiva)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
Sthala Purana: Not a jyotirliṅga episode; it depicts Viṣṇu’s stuti to Śiva after the Dakṣa-yajña crisis, highlighting Śiva’s supremacy and grace.
Significance: Models śaraṇāgati: even Viṣṇu approaches Śiva with añjali and tears—paradigm for devotees seeking Śiva’s anugraha.
Type: stotra
It presents ideal bhakti: even Viṣṇu approaches Śiva with humility, folded hands, and tearful reverence—showing that grace (anugraha) arises through surrender to Pati (Śiva), the supreme Lord who frees beings from bondage.
The verse models Saguna worship—praṇāma, añjali, and stuti (praise). These are standard approaches in Liṅga-pūjā as well: first bow, then offer devotion and hymns before making offerings.
Practice namaskāra with añjali and recite a Śiva-stotra or the Pañcākṣarī mantra ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with steady emotion and humility; let the mind soften (prasannatā) as the core inner offering.
