Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating the Purāṇic account to the sages, summarizing Pārvatī’s successful tapas)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga legend; it is the Purāṇic validation of Pārvatī’s tapas culminating in attaining Śiva as pati (consort), paradigmatic of sādhana reaching siddhi through grace.
Significance: Models the ideal of śivārtha-tapas: single-pointed austerity oriented to Śiva yields fruition; inspires vrata/tapas traditions for marital harmony and spiritual union with Śiva.
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: liberating
It presents tapas offered with Śiva as the sole aim as spiritually “successful”: when intention is purified and directed to Pati (Śiva), the sādhana culminates in fulfillment—union with the Lord and the completion of one’s highest purpose.
Pārvatī’s attainment of Śiva highlights Saguna devotion—approaching the compassionate Lord in a personal form. In Purāṇic practice this is mirrored in Liṅga-upāsanā, where the devotee worships Śiva as accessible Pati while realizing His supreme, transcendent nature.
The takeaway is steadfast tapas with single-pointed Śiva-bhakti—regular japa of the Pañcākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya"), disciplined vows, and focused worship of Śiva (often through Liṅga-pūjā) as the chosen path to spiritual fruition.
