Menā’s Vision of Śiva’s Divine Form
puravāsinya ūcuḥ | netrāṇi saphalānyāsanhimavatpuravāsinām | yo yo'paśyadado rūpaṃ tasya vai sārthakaṃ januḥ
Puravāsinyaḥ (the women of the city of Himavat)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Extols Śiva-darśana as life-fulfilling; aligns with tīrtha-yātrā theology where seeing the Lord grants puṇya and ripens liberation.
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It praises darśana (sacred seeing): beholding the divine, auspicious form awakens bhakti and purifies the soul, making human birth “sārthaka” (fulfilled) by turning life toward Shiva-realization and liberation.
The verse highlights the saving power of encountering Saguna (manifest) divinity through form—just as devotees gain merit and inner transformation by receiving darśana of the Śiva-liṅga or Shiva’s visible manifestations, which lead the mind toward the Supreme (Pati).
Practice intentional darśana and remembrance: take Śiva-darśana (liṅga or mūrti) with focused mind, then do japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” sealing the vision inward as meditation and devotion.
