Pārvatī’s Vow of Truth and the Dialogue on Her Tapas
jānāmi durllabhaṃ vastu kathamprāpyaṃ mayā bhavet | tathāpi mana autsukyāttapyate'dya tapo mayā
Pārvatī
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: liberating
It highlights the Shaiva path where sincere longing (autsukya) matures into tapas—steady inner discipline—showing that humility about one’s limitations can coexist with unwavering aspiration toward Shiva.
Parvati’s yearning is directed toward Saguna Shiva—Shiva as the personal Lord who can be attained through devotion and disciplined practice; such tapas is the inner counterpart of outward worship like linga-pūjā.
The takeaway is committed tapas: regulated living, focused meditation, and devotional resolve—often supported in Shaiva practice by japa of Shiva’s names (e.g., the Pañcākṣarī) alongside purity and restraint.
