Indrajit and Lakshmana: War-Boasts, Rebuke, and the Clash
तंददर्शमहेष्वासोरथस्थस्समलङ्कृतः ।अलङ्कृतममित्रघ्नोराघवस्यानुजंबली ।।।।
taṃ dadarśa maheṣvāso rathasthaḥ samalaṅkṛtaḥ |
alaṅkṛtam amitraghno rāghavasyānujaṃ balī ||
ครั้นแล้วอินทรชิต ผู้ปราบศัตรูผู้ทรงพลัง เป็นมหาธนูศิลป์ นั่งบนรถศึกอันประดับงาม ก็แลเห็นโสมิตรีลักษมณะ น้องแห่งราฆวะ ผู้เองก็แต่งองค์พร้อมเพื่อศึก
In the combat both the heroes fought displaying their might, shone like two planets in the heaven and fought like Indra and Vrta and were difficult to overcome.
Dharma here is implicit: the battlefield meeting frames Lakṣmaṇa’s duty as Rāma’s protector and Indrajit’s role as an aggressor defending adharma; recognition precedes righteous resistance.
Indrajit, in his decorated chariot, notices Lakṣmaṇa on the battlefield, setting up their direct clash.
Lakṣmaṇa’s steadfast strength and readiness to uphold Rāma’s cause; Indrajit’s martial prowess is also noted, heightening the trial of dharma.
